In an edition that set a record number of participants in the most charitable category, We are a Team (Som Un Equip), Vertical Montserrat has reached the highest fundraising figure across all eight races held.
Thanks to all of you, €50,809.09 will go to the Bombers Amb Causa 2026 project. This amount will also be increased by funds raised through the charity calendar, the FestaVal in Esparreguera, and all the other charitable initiatives held this year.
The amount raised will be used to fund the Bombers amb Causa research grant, awarded through a competitive process among researchers at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, as well as social projects supporting children at risk of social exclusion across various Sant Joan de Déu centers in Catalonia.
On May 16, 2026, around 460 athletes climbed the 2,180 charity steps of Vertical Montserrat in support of children at risk cared for by Sant Joan de Déu.
This charity race is organized by the Firefighters of the Government of Catalonia (Bombers de la Generalitat de Catalunya) together with Obra Social de Sant Joan de Déu Social Work, and is supported by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, the Abbey of Montserrat, and the Montserrat Mountain Board.
The standout feature of this edition has been the ‘We Are a Team’ (SUE) category, the most charitable category of the race. 76 teams, made up of up to 4 athletes—representing companies, organizations, sports clubs, educational centers, and individual initiatives—have met or exceeded the challenge of raising €500 before competing. This figure triples last year’s total and reflects the growing commitment to the cause. In this regard, we would like to highlight the ongoing commitment of Off Diabetes, which participated with 7 SUE teams from different parts of Spain.
